KANDY
A ruled in Kandy up to 1815 although the rest of the island was under the British regime. Finally it was ceded to them by the Chieftains of Kandy who were disappointed over the king’s cruel deeds. Today Kandy is one of the most important cities owing to the presence of the Temple of the sacred tooth of the Buddha.
TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH RELIC
Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple.
Monks of the two chapters of Malwatte and Asgiriya conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon and in the evenings. On Wednesdays there is a symbolic bathing of the Sacred Relic with an herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers, called Nanumura Mangallaya. This holy water is believed to contain healing powers and is distributed among those present.

The Botanical Garden of Peradeniya was a pleasure garden of a Kandyan King of the 16th Century and later made in to a Botanical Garden during the British regime. This garden is one of the best in Asia is a place of beauty and site for bird watchers.
UDAWATTEKELE RAIN FOREST
UdawattaKele Sanctuary, often spelled as Udawattakele, is a historic forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawatta Kele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning, "the garden situated above the royal palace". The sanctuary is famous for its extensive avifauna.
The richness of its' bio-diversity is well reflected by its' sheet concentration of fauna currently around 439 species have been recorded with 236 being resident and 203 being migrants or visitors and 33 species are endemic to Sri Lanka along with 68 sub species. Among the resident forms the latest addition to the endemic list of Sri Lanka is seen and scopes owl.
Northern winter around August to April every year around 120 migrant species arrive in Sri Lanka. More successful for birding is the Bird sanctuary or the national park reservoirs, tanks, lakes, river banks, lagoons and the rain forest. Forest birds and the wet land birds are found thought the dry and wet land zone. The top three locations are Horton plains, Knuckles and Adams' peak can be seen endemic high land birds. So low land dry zone forests are Yala National park, Bundala National Park, Udawalawa National Park are ideal for a mixture of bird habitats comprising wet land, lakes, dry scrubs and grass land.
KANDY LAKE
Kandy Lake has a perimeter of 2.1 miles and a maximum depth of 60 feet. A decorative wall, called Walakulu wall, runs for 2060 feet along the banks of the Kandy Lake. In the middle of the lake is an island housing the Royal Summer House. Sri Dalada Maligawa, or Temple of the Tooth Relic, is located beside the lake across the road. On the opposite side of the road from the Temple of the Tooth Relic is the Royal Bathhouse, which is used by the king's wives and concubines as a bathhouse. The British added one more story to the structure to house a library.
The Kandy Lake offers a place for a stroll or a jog. The shady path surrounding the lake provides a view of the hills and the town. The lake was created in 1807 by the last Sinhalese King. It is situated by the side of the Temple of the tooth relic. The Malwatte temple, one of the two head temples of the Siyam Nikaya sect of Theravada Buddhism, is also located overlooking the lake. Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last king of Kandy, decorated the lake with the "walakulu" (clouds) wall.
